Who I am and why this blog is important...

Why have I created this blog?

  1. The main reason is that about a year ago, I started walking for health reasons.  Where I live, in June, during the daytime, there are gnats that try to fly into every orifice they can find, so I would have to wear a net over my head.  In addition, it has been hot here in June, so just uncomfortable during the day.  So, I chose to walk after dark.
  2. I am a spirit-filled believer.
  3. I have done quite a bit of hunting in the past.  I love sitting in trees and watching nature, God's creation, unfold before my eyes.
  4. I have found that people don't know what their purpose is in this world.  I found out what my purpose was and is, when I came to Christ.

Who I am?

I grew up with as the middle child in Middle America.  I was born second of three children, an older brother and a younger sister.  To everybody, it would seem the idyllic family.  But it wasn't and no body's is.  They said I was the most well rounded of the three, again... not true.  I was actually surrounded.  I had favoritism, competition, abuse (both physical and emotional) and alcoholism all around me.  I was just trying to survive what was happening around me.

Why do I bring this up?  Because of this family dynamic, I was not going to reach my potential in life.  I have talent.  I care deeply for others.  But survival does not allow you to be who you are destined to be, but continuously watch your back, be someone you are not and look for safety!  That last part is crucial.  Children need to feel safe.  Safe from things mentioned above.  My identity was stolen from me.  I did not perform to my potential. I wanted to be someone I could not be.  I became a people pleaser (co-dependant).  I also wanted to escape this world and its pain instead of pushing through the pain and learn from it.  And I could not commit to a lifelong relationship due to this fear for many years.

So, I found safety in Christ.  He taught me that I had value, just as I was/am.  He saw the value of me, even in the midst of the muck and mire.  He had plans before I was conceived of what I could be!

What is this blog about?

As I walk at night, I see the grandeur of God's creation in the skies above and in the trees and fields in front of me.  But, the night sky is not alive while the trees and fields and what lives in them are! There is a coordinated, choreographed set of events happening each night during early summer, and we sit in our houses, completely ignorant of the splendor happening just outside the walls of our homes.

This display is what God created.  He created these creatures for us!  All of nature was created for us!  This display is to glorify Him!

Psalm 19:1    The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. (BSB)

Psalm 66: 1-4    Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth! Sing the glory of His name; make His praise glorious.  Say to God, "How awesome are Your deeds!  So great is Your power that Your enemies cower before You.  All the earth bows down to You; they sing praise to You; they sing praise to Your name."  Selah  (BSB)

Revelation 4:11     "Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things; by Your will they exist and came to be."  (BSB)

Most believers can quote Ephesians 2:8-9, but they forget that 2:10 follows!

Ephesians 2:10    For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life.  (BSB)

This is why I created this blog, to help us repent from the things we cannot do ourselves but continue to try (from a preaching from Byron Mills at Beloved Church of Illinois on "Repentance").  I have been stuck in John 5, reading and re-reading what Jesus said about himself to the Pharisees of his time.

John 5:19     "Truly, truly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing by Himself..."  (BSB)

John 5:30    "I can do nothing by Myself..."  (BSB)

The first statement is in third person which states that the Son of God came only to do God's will and with the Father's power and direction.

The second statement is first person, making it personal.  I can do nothing by Myself!  If Jesus can do nothing by himself, how can we do differently, but we attempt to all of the time!  This is where purpose in our lives should take over, forcing us to look at who gives us purpose!

I hope this give you a little bit of anticipation of what this blog will be about?  God's creation and purpose.
